Pastor’s Pondering

Stone Bible Study Update: I am so proud of our Stone Bible Study group—and grateful myself—that we have completed the Old Testament in the Bethel Series! Over the past year and a half, we have dug deeply into God’s Word together, exploring the lessons of the Old Testament with dedication and joy.

I was especially blessed to read the thoughtful reflections and reviews from our Bible Study members. Through this journey, I truly feel that God has accepted our efforts and devotion. In the coming months, I look forward to sharing some of these inspiring reviews with you in our Newsletter.

Looking ahead, we are excited to begin our study of the New Testament on Wednesday, November 5. We warmly invite you to join us—because in Bible Study, the more, the merrier!

Pastor, Rev. Sarah Lee

Review of the Bethel Series Old Testament From a Member

The Bethel Series of the Old Testament was very engaging. We have all read the Bible previously, some of it not making a lot of sense. But this series broke things down into manageable segments. Each book of the Bible in the study had a picture showing symbols to highlight what is in that book. It made it easier to visualize and understand what was happening. For example, a picture of a shaft of light striking a prism with the colorful diffused light passes through a kneeling person (Abram) and extending over the whole earth. This is depicted in Genesis 12 the DESTINY: ā€œI will bless you, so that you will be a blessing, and by you all the earth shall be blessed.ā€ That is what we are to be, a blessing to others.

Reading about the 12 tribes and how they were arranged around the tabernacle and the jobs they were assigned is sometimes hard to imagine. When pictures were added into the study it helped to make a better understanding of why they were located where they were and that made more sense into how they moved and what order to go in when God wanted them to move to another location.

When reading 1 Kings and 2 Kings we learned there were many kings- good and bad, young and not so young. Many sons replaced their fathers as king. Some served only days, others served only months while others served many years. We deep dove into the kings, studying different ones and we even acted out the kings that we studied, dressing up with our crowns, robes, gold and silver jewelry and telling their story. We did balk at this a little at first but in the end, we had a good time with lots of laughs.

I found the maps showing where the different tribes settled, splitting between the north, Israel, and the south, Judah very helpful. What a great reference to have.

We read a lot and we learned a lot and under Rev. Sarah’s guidance. Her biblical knowledge is outstanding. She made it easy for us to understand. We now look forward to studying the New Testament.
